Schwartz Reisman Faculty Affiliate Marlène Koffi, an assistant professor in U of T’s Department of Economics, has published an op-ed in The Hill Times about the potential for AI to improve economic and social science research.

From broadening not only the scope of data used by researchers to expanding conceptions of what data is—and can be—Koffi makes three recommendations for social science researchers, including economists like herself, who want to leverage powerful new technologies like machine learning in their scholarly work.

Koffi is an assistant professor in Department of Economics at the University of Toronto, and received her PhD from the Université de Montréal in 2020. Her research interests are in innovation and inequality. She is also interested in applying deep learning and AI techniques for economics studies and public policies.
